What books are you reading?

What books are you reading?

Post by Albedo » Mon Jan 30, 2006 10:23 am

I know not everyone here reads a lot, but there are some who do. Just curious what authors/genres/books/series everyone is reading? I have a very wide taste in fiction and have been looking for new authors recently. My list of current favs are:

Stephen King (as if he needs an introduction)
Greg Iles (would recommend for those who like thrillers/page turners)
Neil Gaiman (if anyone hasn't read his Neverwhere book, I would totally recommend it)
Robert Jordan (fantasy)
Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child (techno-thrillers)

EDIT: Forgot to mention
Bret Easton Ellis
Chuck Palahniuk

I was just given a book by C.J. Cherryh who is a Sci-fi author who is apparently very good. So after Cell (Stephen King) I'll be reading that.

Got any good authors I should check out, or whatever just post! I'm curious. :)

I'll have to give George Martin a try. I've heard good things.

I also haven't had much time to read lately. I can, however, throw out some names of authors I like. Mostly I'm into fantasy.

Deborah Hale - A new author I've been into. I recently bought her second fantasy book and haven't had a chance to read it yet.
Garth Nix - Sabriel and Shade's Children are my favorite books by him.
Mercedes Lackey - Some of her books are enjoyable (particularly the first series she wrote, starting with Arrows of the Queen. Some of her other books are complete crap.

zomg, Fey, I also <3 Neil Gaiman. I haven't read too many of his novels, but I immensely enjoy his Sandman and Death Graphic Novels.

zomg, Tally if you like Neil you HAVE to read Neverwhere and Stardust. Neverwhere is probably one of the best books I have read in years. So poignant and utterly weird but completely believable in the context. Such a great read.

His latest book, Anansi Boys is also terrific. And its really cheap at Barnes and noble right now. REALLY cheap.

I've read every book Chuck has written. Fight Club is a good introduction to him. Survivor is good, too. I really like lullaby and Diary. Those are really good. Lullaby is really funny in a very dark way.

I would stay away from his latest, Haunted, until you've read the others...its really gross. It goes way over the line and isn't the greatest of his. The ones that stick out in my mind the most are Fight Club, Lullaby, Diary and Survivor.

His Stranger than Fiction is a great nonfiction work that is startling since its all true...

ROFL. I wouldn't want you to waste time on creating a website for me. haha

About the cat litter...yeah....i don't know what surprises me most...that I've actually reviewed cat litter or that 3 out of 3 people actually read and responded favorably to it

It was absolutely the worst cat litter in the world though.
